My Sony Ericsson v600i

I got a new phone the other day. I’ve always had Nokias but thought it was time to try something new; after all, how can I substantiate my belief that Nokias are the best phones if I’ve never had anything else?

This is a pretty reasonable phone. Most online reviews complain of the ring being too quiet - hasn’t been a problem for me and I don’t even have it on full volume. I really like how the light comes on automagically when the phone is moved for the first time in a while, certainly helps you find it in the dark - although this may be the chief cause for the excessively poor battery life (not that I’ve had another 3G phone to compare to).

The thing I find most annoying is that it vibrates and beep-beep-beeps when receiving a text message EVEN when I’m on the phone and holding it to my ear. Why?? Apparently all Sony’s do this? Something a bit more subtle when in use please…

UPDATE: I just found the My Words list, all the words I’ve added to the dictionary since I got it. Possibly the funniest and most profane list of words I’ve ever read.

UPDATE: I’ve realised why this phone is cheaper than other 3G phones. It has been specially designed to make the telco more money, rather than to be useful to me, the user. Here’s why:

  • When typing an SMS you can’t see how many characters you’ve used, there is a very brief pop-up when you cross into the second/third message, so it is very easy to send multiple in one go, without even knowing.
  • It only comes with 4 (crap) ringtones. So presumably I will have to download more, and pay for them.
  • When sending a new message it defaults to MMS.
  • I can’t seem to change the browser homepage away from vodafone’s website, which I wouldn’t want to visit at all.

Get Moving, Get A Blog

So today I came to the office to do a bunch of hugely important things (you know its important when you spend Sunday doing it). I’m still doing the first one: Set up a blog and post on it (nearly done..). In the process of course I had to research what sort of blog I wanted, finally sign up for digg and del.icio.us, get the script.aculo.us stuff so I can have a play with that, read a whole bunch of other blogs, etc. So most of a day later, here it is. Now of course I’ll be needing a new phone so that I can post from it. Maybe that will be next Sunday’s mission.
